[How To] Installing Windows XP on Dell XPS 1530

As Jayesh said in his last post, we are going to appeal to more people and more genres. So here it is, “The Santa Geekshop”

So you got a fresh new laptop. Spent some 60K to make it into a monster of a machine. All the Core 2 goodness coupled with multi gigs of ram and what not.

Enter Windows Vista.

Wow.

The “Aero” and (dog) “flips” amaze for the first few runs but then a question pops to mind. Why is my sweet sweet machine running as if I am running a Pentium 2 machine with 64 MBs of RAM? You suddenly realize that you may have bought a bust machine and break into a sweat. Then you decide to call up your friendly neighborhood geek and he promptly informs you “Windows = Sh*t” and “Vista = Sh*t Unleashed, get Linux/Mac”.

But we, here at The Drunk Santa, are here to inform you otherwise. Vista still blows, but you still have XP SP2. It is possibly one of the best Operating Systems ever made and we insist you buy an original copy as soon as you can. Because the Microsoft Genuine Advantage is just so very orgasmic. And because we fear karma. Maybe the roadside CD-wallah at VT/Lamington will help you in this regard. But be sure to check if its original or not. That is what counts.

Note: Beyond this point, this post will deal with how to install Windows XP on a Dell 1530 since that is what I have. Things may work with other Dell/Non Dell models. You can try if you are a bit adventurous. Links to the XP drivers have also been included.

Step 1: Backup all data in a drive other than the C: drive on your computer. Or preferably in an external drive.

Step 2: Restart. Press F2 to get into the BIOS. Follow these steps, or else the XP CD will refuse to detect your Hard Disk. (The arrow keys the tab key and the enter key are what you need to work with the BIOS. Pressing Enter on any section’s name with a “+” next to its name expands it. You will need to expand the 2nd section to get to the options mentioned below.)

2.1: Go to the section called SATA Operation and select the ATA option in place of AHCI.

2.2: Go to the Flash Cache Module section and select OFF in place of Enabled.

There are other ways around this but, well, they are more complex and I don’t really like typing all that much. You won’t really notice any difference in terms of performance, security, stability and all other such buzzwords.

Step 3: Save and Exit. Your laptop will restart now.

Step 4: Press any key when it tells you to. (You need to have the original XP disk in your drive before this.)

Step 5: Press “Enter” and keep on accepting all the nonsense.

Step 6: On the partition screen read the instructions and delete the C: drive. ONLY DELETE THE C: DRIVE IN CASE YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR DATA IN OTHER PARTITIONS.

Step 7: Create a new partition from the empty space created on deleting the C: drive. Its simple, you just have to read the instructions on that screen keep pressing the required keys.

Step 8: Select the freshly created C: and press Enter. Select Quick format from the list of options that appear.

Step 9: Keep pressing next, next and more nexts. When your laptop restarts, don’t “press any key” when it asks you to.

Step 10: You will get your copy of XP installed in around 30-45 minutes. ( It is pretty straightforward and umpteen guides exist for installing XP on the computer. Just google it. :) )

Step 11: Ahh. All is well but you don’t have any sound. And no Ethernet. And nothing else for that matter. Officially Dell has no XP drivers for this machine. But it does have drivers for other machines with the same parts in them. So after some research, I’ve come up with the XP drivers for XPS. 1330 users will need a different driver for their Ethernet. All the other drivers should work though.

Bluetooth Drivers
Fingerprint Drivers
Ethernet Drivers
Touchpad Drivers
Graphics (Nvidia) Drivers
Dell Quickset
Remote Control Drivers
Sound Drivers
Sys Utilities Drivers
Webcam Drivers
WiFi Drivers

Update:

Here are the chipset drivers (Will solve the “no drivers found for base system device” problem)

Chipset Drivers

These drivers are the same as those that ship in the drivers DVD. They work fine with XP too.

And so here you are! All the windows goodness with no almost no Blue Screen of Death and blazing performance. Have Fun!

Disclaimer: The author(s) do not accept any responsibility for anything that may go wrong while you try this out. Although, I have tried and tested this technique umpteen times on my own machine, there can never be any guarantees. I suggest you read the guide carefully and follow the steps exactly. Best take a printout and keep it with you if you are doing this for the first time.

  2. I bought a pirated version of Vista. The guy tried to convince me to get XP, which in the pirated CD market is still expensive then Vista Ultimate Edition.

Anyhoo, got Vista, ran it for a month or so, cracked the Activation process many times in between, finally it refused to budge. Formatted the computer after taking the backup from Safe Mode, now currently happily using XP SP2 and thinking of getting SP3, and yes the XP I have is genuine.

Why this long comment? Well, because people should just stay as far as they can from any OS with a Vista in it.

  3. Informative post. XD

Btw, for people who still want the “eye candy” which Vista bestows/blows your PC with, check out Ubuntu with Beryl. The “eye candy” is 10,000x sweeter than Aero.

PS. Windows XP SP2 DOES has BSOD problems. And with Vista, the legendary BSOD has become RSOD. XD

By Falak Mulchandani on Jun 14, 2008

  4. @Jayesh: Get SP3. It doesn’t feel much different but “dil ko khushi milti hain.”

lol on the Vista vs XP rates. xD

@Falak: True, it has BSOD issues, but it is very very rare. In my 4+ years with XP, I have seen it happen only 2 times, both of which were due to motherboard issues.

And yes, Linux >>>> Windows any day, without even Compiz Fusion. But then, driver support is pathetic and you really need a lot of patience to get it working as you want it to. With Windows, we’re just used to the yelling, screaming and finally compromising. :P

  5. p.s. you can skip 2.1 , if u created windows xp cd with integrated intel sata drivers,, with prog like “nlite”

p.p.s the post is very usefull, and its cool that u prefered rapidshare :)

By miasnik on Jun 16, 2008

  6. @miasnik
Thanks. And yes, Rapidshare rocks :)

One could always skip 2.1, like I said, “There are other ways around this but, well, they are more complex and I don’t really like typing all that much.” :P

You could add a rough outline on how to go about the alternative. It might be useful for the readers. (Its always great to have options :))

  7. is there any other source of the drivers?
    a mirror perhaps?

By Nick Pasko on Jun 26, 2008

  8. Thank you. I needed to install XP on my XPS1530 to run some very specialsied software that refused to work under Vista….I was looking ta a new, lower end laptop just for this application; the above tutorial worked perfectly so it’s now saved me $500′ish and means I can use a decent machine onsite :-)

Thank you so much for your effort in putting this all togehter.

By Andrew on Jun 27, 2008

  9. @Nick: See I wont be able to upload any mirrors as of now. You are free to do so, but please link back to our website and send some hits our way too :).

@Andrew: Glad to hear it got you out of a sticky situation. Hope you clicked on some ads to give back some love :P

PS @all: Do send in/add some comments telling us any how tos/other geekshop issues you may want solved :). We’ll try our best. Promise :P

  11. Can someone suggest the sequence of drivers to be installed, say for example

    1. Chipset Drivers
    2. Bluetooth Drivers
    3. Fingerprint Drivers
    4. Ethernet Drivers
    5. Touchpad Drivers
    6. Graphics (Nvidia) Drivers
    7. Dell Quickset
    8. Remote Control Drivers
    9. Sound Drivers
    10. Sys Utilities Drivers
    11. Webcam Drivers
    12. WiFi Drivers

By AbdRazzak on Jun 30, 2008

  12. @AbdRazzak: No order really. Just keep installing everything without restarting when it tells you to. That pretty much worked for me.

By Sumit on Jun 30, 2008

  13. Thanks for the suggestion. Did any one find any critical problem after installing the windows XP on Dell XPS 1530. Also, i wanted to know if i can completely knock off Vista and just have Windows XP, can this be done if yes, what the steps to do so. My storage is
    C: NTFS (Size)220.2Gb (Available)202.3Gb (Used)17.90Gb
    D: NTFS (Size)9.999Gb (Available)5.831Gb (Used)4.168Gb

If i want to use both Vista and XP, then can you please suggest the best partition to make and which will contain what?

Thanks for your reply in Advance.

By AbdRazzak on Jun 30, 2008

  14. I have actually removed Vista completely from my system and have faced no real problems till now. But obviously, I cannot make any guarantees.

Also, this post guides you on how you can compeltely remove Vista (after backing up your data) and install XP.

To remove Vista, just copy off all the data you want to backup to another hard disk or partition (the D drive in your case). Then, when you boot up your XP disk, just delete C: and DON’T MESS AROUND WITH D: if you have backed up your data in D. The rest should go smoothly.

For a dual boot, just install XP in a partition, then install Vista in another. Vista usually automatically adds XP to its boot loader and will rename whatever partition you install it in to C:.

I guess I’ll write a more detailed post on the topic if the need arises. Googling -> Vista+XP dual boot should solve your problem though.

  15. Andrew, i need to ask you something!

”Thank you. I needed to install XP on my XPS1530 to run some very specialsied software that refused to work under Vista….I was looking ta a new, lower end laptop just for this application; the above tutorial worked perfectly so it’s now saved me $500′ish and means I can use a decent machine onsite :-)” you said , and, did you have Vista XP fusion at that time or just XP?

By Jure on Jul 8, 2008

  16. Hi, just wnated to knw where to donwload the actual latest updated WinXP drivers? Are the one in the rapishares latest one?

By AbdRazzak on Jul 8, 2008

  17. @AbdRazzak: These drivers are all WHQL Drivers and are the latest ones for XP in my opinion. More advanced versions of the drivers are generally Vista only.

  18. Guys, the WiFi driver for the dell xps 1530 doesn’t work….

    serriously

  19. Jure, i have installed it and it works fine. Please post the error that you are receving?

By AbdRazzak on Jul 8, 2008

  20. it just stops installing, maybee because i’m only having win XP on my machine….really…it stops to install … or if you please post me the link you downloaded, maybee it’ll be different, or something, i really don’t know. it stops, like i wouldn’t eaven do anything. Everything else works terriffic! and Thx for everything!

By Jure on Jul 8, 2008

  21. Download the Wifi drivers and install it again as it may be a corrupted file. Assure you all the drivers listed about works fine.

By AbdRazzak on Jul 8, 2008

  22. please tell me … do you have just Win XP on your machine ? .. or vista xp fusion.. cause maybee that’ll be the problem . Because .. i have downloaded the given link about 15 times .. and it’s the same every time i try :(

By Jure on Jul 8, 2008

  23. @Jure: There is no prob with the wifi drivers. I have only Win XP installed on my machine.

Also I dont think XP-Vista fusion would cause anything to stop working :)

By Sumit on Jul 8, 2008

  24. Can you please send me your download link to my e-mail please. i’ll try it from there .

Well,i now know how to install xp and drivers on my Xps1530, but i would like to keep vista also for my entertainment part.

I will use Xp to work with visual studio dot net 2003..So is there a way for me to have dual boot(Vista and XP)…

I am so waiting to find it out as i have a lot of work to do with my lappy. So the faster the better….

    Please be ellaborate like this…

    Thanks and Regards

By Bharathi on Jul 17, 2008

  26. See one way I see this happening is if you install Vista first and then install Windows XP in another partition.

The problem that I can see coming is you prolly wont get a OS selection menu on startup. (Not very sure on if this prob actually takes place.)

I will post something on how to fix this issue but it will have to wait for a bit since I am busy with some things right now.

By Sumit on Jul 17, 2008

  27. Dude,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
can i remove vista which is pre-installed in my lappy and then put Xp on it first. And then do partition so that i can install vista in the other partition.
If i do this, will i be able to do a dual boot..Will i get options in the startup menu to choose either vista or XP.
One more thing,I got my vista OS from dell.Is it necessary to back up my vista before removing it???
I am really confused here dude..Please tell me something that would releive my worries and other dell xps users..I know that u working on some other thing.Forgive me to bother you..

    Thanks and Regards

  28. See, as far as I can understand, removing Vista and then installing XP and then installing Vista again is going to give you more problems than you want.

With XPS you would have got a Vista DVD too. So no need to back anything up. What you DO need to back up is, obviously, your own stuff that you have on the laptop. If you have an external drive, that’ll work for this purpose. If not, go to Control Panel>Administrative tools>Computer Management>Disk Management. Now select the C drive in the interface and right click on it. You will have an option of shrinking the partition. Just Shrink the partition and you’ll have a partition you can save your data in. Or you can delete the D: that has the dell backup junk. In my opinion, the default Vista install that dell ships is pretty bloated and as a result, very slow. So a format should do it good anyway :D.

Then when you have things all backed up, just reinstall vista, copy off all your data back into the vista partition, delete all other partitions except the media direct and the vista partitions and follow the steps to install XP in the free space generated. At this point, I can’t really be sure if you’ll get XP in the multiboot menu or not since I myself have not tried it on XPS. You will have to try it out and let us know :D. Anyway, it is very fixable so it is, mostly, a non issue.

Do tell us how things go. :)

By Sumit on Jul 18, 2008

  29. sure dude,
will be doing it tomorrow.will let u know for sure.will try both the things. If nothing is coming my way i will be removing vista completely and will install XP as i have to work with my applictaion..

I will follow the steps that u have given in the beggining.

    Thanks and Regards

  31. I couldn’t access the content on the link you posted. Can you post the relevant text directly over here?

By Sumit on Jul 18, 2008

  32. This is the full post.COnsider the lines which i have marked with quotes.
One more thing..How do i see my system configuration in vista.

Windows Xp can be installed in ANY Laptop that runs Vista.

To do so all you need is an actual WINDOWS XP cd.

Once you have that cd ready.

Proceed to create a second harddrive partition in your harddrive ( this means you will have two harddrives in one )

to do this you can obtain a partion magic software as partition magic 8 ( free, just goolge it ) or ” gparted ” ( also free )

Once you’ve divided your harddrive into two harddrives.

You can proceed to installing windows xp in your newly created harddrive. ( with the dell oem cd )

“”"Now, if you already have vista. This will NOT ERASE any of your data. But simply make it so your vista installation doesn’t boot.

    What do i mean ?

I mean that if you succeeded into in installing Windows Xp, and have it running, your vista install won’t boot by default.

To enable DUAL BOOTING you need to ” fix ” your vista boot option. Meaning you have to reload vistas boot manager. Which is done automatically when you boot to your Vista cd and choose to ” repair your computer ” one or two times.”"”

If all goes well, and you’ve followed my simple instructions to your best understanding. Everything should be fine

By Bharathi on Jul 18, 2008

  33. You get to system properties by right clicking on computer and going to properties.

Also, as I said, you can go for a format, which would only help things since the default install is very bloated, or you can skip formatting and go straight to the XP install. If you don’t have partition magic (You will need the latest one. The old ones can’t partition in Vista) you can go for the shrink option I mentioned earlier. Both would work fine. The post confirms my fear that you wont get the multiboot menu on installing XP. But its solution is also mentioned. How well it works is something I can’t really tell you. But always keep in mind, Vista will only run as long as you have it in partition C:. And in case you do format, follow this order of reinstallation: format>Vista>XP. And if you shrink the C: like I mentioned, you will need to delete the backup drive first.

You should give it a try. Let us know if things do/don’t work out.

By Sumit on Jul 18, 2008

  34. Sure buddy….Thanks for all the replies…I would really love to try these things out. Will let u know if i get stuck somewhere or even do it successfully.

  35. Sorry to bother u,One more thing i forgot,My dell Bluetooth headset is not pairing with my lappy…I have tried a lot of times but still cant connect it.My system is not even detecting it.

But i tried connecting my bluetooth headset with Nokia 95…It is working fine.Do u have any idea or a solution for this..

By Bharathi on Jul 18, 2008

  36. Nope. No ideas on that. I have a cellphone that pairs up nicely with my lappy, but otherwise I have no other bluetooth devices.

PS. Ask all you want. Don’t worry about bothering any of us :P :D

By Sumit on Jul 18, 2008

  37. well i thought i add my little bit of info–
i bought the dell xps m1330 on the 2-07-08 as it was just the right size and everything i needed apart from VISTA.i did some research befor i bought the laptop and found that the specs should carry xp drivers through 3rd party information.
So my project started to hunt down the drivers hence i landed here.
Well all i can say is a big thank you to the drunk santa crew,i installed xp as directed here i was going to use nlite as i have with many pc’s but felt on this occasion i would go the old school way and baby sit the install.
The install went flawless as did the driver install every thing works fine including the remote control lol…i have had no bsod infact it’s mega fast after a few xp tweaks here and there.
so back to basics hit the drivers down from the link here, install xp then defrag, install drivers defrag, then each bit of software you install defrag that as you go not all in one go.
the end product is a very fast & reliable dell xps m 1330 laptop.

    thank you again

  38. Guys

after I installed XP home edition on my XPS 1330, I have as maximum definition 1024 x 768. I would like to have the 1200 x 800 definition. Do you have an idea why I cannot see that in my Display Properties?

By czuccaro on Jul 26, 2008

  39. Which gfx card do you have? Have you put in 8400/8600 GT on your laptop?

By Sumit on Jul 26, 2008

  40. Summit, thanks for the answer.

In my invoice I do not see having the 8400 gfx card. You think this might be the problem? how can I check definitely if there is on the laptop or not?

    Great thanks again

By czuccaro on Jul 26, 2008

  41. I strongly suspect that you have the Intel X3100 gfx chipset that comes in standard with the board our laptops have.

You can check if you have the nvidia card by right clicking on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager>display adapter and see what card is listed there.

By Sumit on Jul 26, 2008

  42. I guess you are right, I do not see that.

Do you know if I can buy it separately and install it? would you reccomend 8400 or 8600? do you have any indication where I can find instructions on how to install it eventually?

    Great thanks

By czuccaro on Jul 26, 2008

  43. I really dont have much of an idea on that. Maybe you can call up dell service for this?

By Sumit on Jul 26, 2008

  44. btw the resolution you are wanting would be supported by the card that you have too, you just need to find the drivers fr it.

By Sumit on Jul 26, 2008

  45. Ah, that is very interesting.

Should I look for the driver of “Intel X3100 grafix chipset”? is this the correct name?

Thanks again Sumit, you saved a bit chunck of my day

By czuccaro on Jul 26, 2008

  46. I found the driver and now I have the 1280 x 800, all set. Reinstalling XP with all appropriate drivers was quite a pain, but worth it.

By czuccaro on Jul 26, 2008

  47. No Prob. Can you give us the link for the driver so people who have your config could download and use the drivers?

As for your Indicom problem, do you connect using the usb modem or your phone or the datacard?

By Sumit on Aug 8, 2008

  57. I connect my tata indicom using the same cord which i used to connect my Lan…I hook my phone with the phone jack and the other end goes in to my ethernet port..

  60. Hi dude,…

I seen your explanation for installing XP in xps 1530. Thanks a lot. But when I try to format my hard disk using my XP disc (original). It skips and entering into vista. I made changes in the bios as u mentioned above. But still i cant format vista. Can you please give me a solution for this.
    Thank you…

By guna on Aug 12, 2008

  61. Okay, I’m guessing your boot order is not configured properly. Look for a section called Boot priority or boot order or simply boot and ensure that your dvd drive priority is the maximum followed by the hard disk priority.

By Sumit on Aug 12, 2008

  62. Great information here - thanks for having it all in one place.

2 questions for the OP - will the sigmatel Sound Drivers work with my ‘Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition’ ?

The other is in regards to the Ethernet drivers - are they compatible with the ‘Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card’ card I picked up as an option?

    Thanks!

  63. 1. Audigy software CD doesn’t work with XP as far as i know.

    2. I have no idea on this one since neither me or none of my friends got this config.

By Sumit on Aug 13, 2008

  64. When you are referring to the Audigy Software CD, are referring to the ones for the Vista install that come with the laptop? Is the component specific to Vista and not able to use XP drivers? Just trying to understand your stance on Audigy software not working with XP…

As for the Ethernet drivers I imagine I could review the drivers I picked up on your webpage and compare them with the ones that came with the laptop.

Any other suggestions before I attempt this?

    By City_Rider on Aug 13, 2008

  65. Whoops, I gotta proof read a couple more times apparently…

*are YOU referring to the ones for the Vista…

    By City_Rider on Aug 13, 2008

  66. See since your original question was regarding the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card drivers you need to be worrying about are the WiFi drivers and not the ethernet driver. The ethernet drivers should work just fine.

And by Audigy software CD, I meant the CD that comes when you select the Audigy advanced HD option while configuring and not the drivers that ship by default.

    Hope that helps.

  67. Hi Sumit,..
    Thanks for your response.
I tried booting by giving highest priority to DVD drive only. But still its not allowing XP discs to run.
Is your system is also DELL XPS 1530..?

By guna on Aug 13, 2008

  68. Yeah. That is why I wrote this post.

Anyway, I think you should try with another XP disk. I suspect yours is not bootable.

Or you could try running the disk on another PC and see if you can get into the setup there.

  69. Glad to see Good and Helpful people in one place !!!

Still waiting for my M1330 and already anxious in trying
    to convert it to XP.
My question is; what happens when one hit the MediaDirect button after the XPconversion?

Anyone have a problem regarding this?

    Regards to all….

By Barako on Aug 16, 2008

  70. Nope. MediaDirect just needs to be installed before you put in any OS on your system and you should be fine.

By Sumit on Aug 16, 2008

  71. Sumit, ty for the reply
    can mediadirect be removed permanently?
one last question… will the xp conversion
    void my dell warranty?

    Thanks again…

By Barako on Aug 16, 2008

  72. Yes it can. Just delete the 2.something partition and it’ll be gone.

I asked the customer care this question and they said it doesn’t void the warranty, but you should check in your region to be sure.

  73. Sumit, Thanks for your time and patience !!

Will convert on Wed. 8-19th when I get it.

  74. Thank you guys so much for such a informative discussion.
I tried to convert my M1530 from Vista to XP. I have 3 problems.
    1. system utility is not compatable to my OS.
    2. I tried every driver for wifi but none works.
    3. system says my webcam is ready to use but I can not.

I will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

  75. hi,
thank you very much for this description.

do you know where to find the sys utilities driver in german? i can’t install it because my os runs german.

    thanks again!

  76. Thank you very much for this walk-through! Its been about…oh….3 weeks since I installed XP on my 1530 and everything is going great!

One quick question. I see dell has released a new xps 1330 display driver on 7/1/08, would this be compatible with the 1530 (8600GT)? I like to keep my stuff as current as possible )^_^

    Thanks again!

By Dane on Aug 19, 2008

  77. @azz: maybe you have Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card and that is why the wifi wont work?

As for the rest, I and many others have used the drivers with no problems. Maybe you could give us more details and we may be able to help you out.

@Linda: You will have to search on the dell site for those drivers I’m afraid.

@Dane: Unfortunately, no :(. This is the final XP supported WHQL driver for the gfx card. The ones released after this all work only with Vista. But you could give me the link and I’ll let you know if there is any change :)

  78. Hey Sumit! I recently bought an XPS 1530 from Dell … which (obviously) came pre-installed with Vista. I used it for a couple of months; began to detest it and started wishing I had XP instead. Googling … I found your tutorial and followed it fully after backing up my Data and the drivers required for XP on another partition of my notebook.

The installation was successful … but now I have a problem. The partition where I backed up all my data and drivers has disappeared. I cannot see or access it AT ALL! The only drive that shows up in My Computer is the C: drive which I have formatted and installed XP in. What do I do now? How do I get back my data?

    Please help!

By Niranjan on Aug 21, 2008

  79. As the 1st step please confirm if you have not accidentally deleted the partition. Go to control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management and check to see if you see your drive there.

By Sumit on Aug 21, 2008

  80. I checked via Disk Management … and I can’t even see the remaining 100GB+ even as unallocated space.

All I have are: My C drive … with the OS, my Portable HDD and my DVD Drive.

The remaining 100GB+ isn’t shown there even as unallocated space.

    Help. Please?

By Niranjan on Aug 24, 2008

  81. maybe you can take a screenshot of the disk management page and send me a link at sumit.pandey@thedrunksanta.com

  82. Guys, Thank you for all of your help!

By Silverwings on Aug 24, 2008

  83. I know you did it for the lulz, but making people wait for rapidshare on 12 files is ridiculous. It took me more than 100 years to download all the files. A more intelligent route would have been listing the vendors/actual device names so we could hunt down the drivers ourselves.

Oh and you forgot the chipset drivers, and my sp2 disk was a little lacking in the SM BUS Controller department. Fortunately, Intel has a handy chipset identification tool on their support pages, if only dell would make things so easy.

Oh, and lets not forget dude, keeping a marmot like that for domestic purposes, thats not exactly legal either.

By DiamondJim on Aug 25, 2008

  84. Ahh. I was wondering when your brand of lame “everything’s wrong with everything but we won’t do shit about it” retards would come along. When we reached 80 comments and you people still had no representation here I was almost afraid you guys had finally *shudder* grown up and/or died out.

So, well, thanks for showing up and relieving me of my fears. :)

As for listing the device names is concerned, you can find it listed nicely in one spot on the dell page.

PS. It so happens that I don’t save every link I visit and since I had the drivers lying around with me I decided to upload them to a place where I found it convenient. And people don’t seem to have an issue with it since you’re the 1st one to complain out of over 7000 hits this post has received. If anything, one chap even tried to help out by creating a non-RS mirror. (see comments above)

  85. This is a pretty good list of instructions for entry level users to install XP on the 1530. As far as the criticism… has to be expected. People who don’t know enough always criticize. You need to be congratulated for helping many users!

If anyone has issues with display adapters.. go to this site…

We have modified the inf files to be installed on any laptop with an Nvidia GPU. ranging from 169.** to 177.** versions.
