The Nuke Deal (or No Deal)?

In my last post I talked about the trust vote. In this post however, I try to focus on why is there a deal being done. Remember I do not represent any party and the views in the post are completely mine.

Now, The Nuke Deal, 123 agreement has had it’s share of criticism, people are asking questions if it means power or something else?

The question people are really asking are :-

1. Does India really have a shortage of the Nuclear Fuel, Uranium?

Answer : That’s actually wrongly put, Uranium is not the only nuclear fuel used in nuclear reactors. Other stuff like Thorium are also used. India has however been designing fast reactors based on thorium as fuel requiring very less uranium as the start up fuel. India has 0.8% of world uranium reserves that’s around 78,000 tones of that metal. Isn’t that enough? Yes it kinda is to generate electricity for India needs. India has also been able to built the FTBR (Fast Thorium Breeder Reactor) which can work wonders. Although this technology is still not implemented, people are quite sure that this process will work. This reactor basically breeds Uranium and Plutonium. Thus, we can double our capacity every 15-20 years, theoretically.

2. Does India have shortage of nuclear fuel [Uranium] and its technology to reprocess?

Answer : The development of FTBR, which not only breeds plutonium [Which can be used as input] but also breeds uranium. It is also called twin core reactor for its unique design. These all inputs prove that indeed we do have the technology to process and re-process nuclear fuels.

3. Is re-processing so important that without it we can’t prosper?

Answer : Hell to the yes, we need reprocessing of fuel to breed it and enhance our overall potential to generate power or electricity, whatever we use it for. This was in fact India’s three step program to achieve independency in nuclear power

4. Now the big(gest) question : What’s the purpose of this Indo-US deal then?

Answer : Today the world is not the correct representation of its constituents. The NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) and CTBT (Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty) do not treat responsible countries with a different attitude rather it favors only specific countries. No country can undo the process of the NPT or  the CTBT. So basically to gain backdoor entry into nuclear club, this nuke deal is being done.

Being said that, I would further say this is not the only reason. In case of India, it gives it an opportunity to legitimize the nuclear weaponisation of the country. It also provides an opportunity to override the international rules for non-nuclear country as per the NPT. India has its own nuclear weapons programme. I earlier did say that our Uranium reserves are enough for power generation, but these very same reserves are also needed for the weapons programme. If they are used for weapons, we will not be able to re-process them. If this deal goes through, we can use the indigenous nuclear fuel for our weapons programme and use imported fuel for our power generation.

My reaction is quite obvious I guess, I kinda do support the Nuke Deal and I do expect the educated people to understand why. Heck, we can’t have a person who can’t even talk in English be the Prime Minister of our country nor can we have a extreme Hindu man becoming our PM, he’ll fuck the minorities up. The Muslims were rumored to be against the N-deal [WTF?] Omar Abdullah actually cleared that up in his speech on the day of the trust vote, it happens to be  one of the best speeches made that day. Anyway this deal might be good for country and it might be bad, whatever it is, it’s gonna go through. So why don’t we just hope that it’s something good and that finally the government has started thinking about the common man? Even though that’s quite unlikely. I also don’t think that the government should hide the text of the N-deal. One of the people I discuss politics with actually went ahead and said there should have a public voting on this issue. I guess if they did have a public voting it would have wasted time that this government and the Bush administration didn’t have. Anyway now we’ll see some reforms which the Left didn’t approve of being made, so I guess that’s a good thing.

The Nuke Deal: Why was there a Trust Vote?

It’s been a long time since I posted something on politics and seriously it was mainly because nothing was really happening in the world of politics, until the UPA won the trust vote in parliament. Now most of you already know a lot about how the UPA won the trust vote and why was there a trust vote in the first place. I am gonna focus on the latter in this post, I’ll try >.<

A trust vote was held in the Lok Sabha, the Indian Parliament of the people because the Left had withdrawn support when the UPA decided to go to ahead with the Nuclear deal between America and India. The Left said that they ‘know’ that the Indo-US Nuke Deal is bad for the country and it will mean that India will be ‘under’ the US. Other opposition parties like the BJP, BSP and other small parties decided to join in with the Left to bring down the government. Comments like ‘This government is in the I.C.U, will it survive?’ were thrown around by opposition leaders during the Parliament sessions held a day before the trust vote. While the Left and their alliance thought they were gonna bring down the Manmohan Singh lead government.

The UPA decided to get SP to back them up for their deal. Now all that is good politics but everyone kinda forgot why was there so much politics being played. Answer : The fucking Indian-American Nuke deal! Now, the UPA says that the deal is good for the country of India and it’s citizens and if this deal goes through [which it will, now] India will be regarded as a nuclear state. The Left however, even after loosing the trust vote decided to stick with their new motto which is ‘The UPA and the deal are both bad for this country.’ Supporting them the BJP was not really interested in the deal, they just wanted power so they joined the Left for wrong reasons. There were rumors going around that even the BJP came into power the deal would go through, BJP quite obviously called all these rumors bullcrap and blamed Amar Singh [President or something of the SP/Amithabh Bachan's 'brother'] for spreading these rumors.

Now, the N-deal basically from what I now will give India nuclear energy. All good? Not exactly, there have been some criticism over some of the text in the deal about the America not letting India producing nuclear arms, now I don’t know how much of this is smoking mirrors but I know that America won’t sign a deal wherein they don’t get anything, no country will actually. The text of the deal hasn’t been made public yet and it’s doubted that it ever will.

This deal has been going around since a long time and now finally it’ll go through. Maybe it’ll all be for the good of the people or maybe we’ll end up like Iran [you know, fucked up.]

I was actually supporting the UPA on this and I saw the whole Parliament session on the day of the trust vote, nearly. And I was convinced that they would win when our Prime Minister went ahead and showed his ‘Victory’ gesture to the media. Though many people think that India is gonna be in a sad state after the N-deal, I actually doubt it. Heck, everyone knows that I love this government [You know the same government which has bought VAT taxes, inflation rise, fuel price hikes among various other things to this country.] <3 So yeah, I support the N-deal!

There now can I have my 30 crores? :/

Note :Next post will cover how the UPA won the Trust Vote.

Now, most of the people don’t know who or what Savita Bhabhi is which is sad because Savita Bhabhi is the first ever Indian toon porn star! Now before you people who already are in a relationship and are getting some ass scroll down, let me tell you that the story line of Savita Bhabhi is hilarious and it’s definitely worth checking out if you are bored of the same non-funny porn on various sex sites and also if you just need to laugh. Some people obviously disagree and say that this is against our Indian culture [You know the same culture where the Kama Sutra originated]

According to the website of Savita Bhabhi, the character has been inspired by the owner’s real life ‘hot bhabhi’ who didn’t wanna reveal her true identity as she is married, which is just wow.

Now I am not posting this to get hits, seriously :P I am posting it because I think India’s creativity is going places. Oh and also because I am trying to post things daily on the blog.

And before I forget, Savita Bhabhi is also available in several Indian languages, including Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Punjabi among many others. There is also a forum available for questions or comments. So go ahead and check out India’s first toon porn star at http://savitabhabhi.com

Apple acts like the Government

The AppStore is a great thing isn’t it? You get all your iPhone/iPod Touch apps from it, it’s like a hub for everything iPhone/iPod Touch. But there is more then what meets the eye. Every person who puts his app for a price on the iTunes AppStore has to pay a 30% ‘maintenance fee’ to Apple. That’s fine for huge game developing companies like EA, Sega, Gameloft. But not every developer is a Sega, for others 30% is a big deal. So these n00b game developers are putting their apps for free on the iTunes store. Apple is disappointed by this news and was encouraging the developers to charge for their work as the business model of the Appstore is based on Apple getting the 30%. A survey actually pointed out that 71% of the apps on the App Store were going/already free, which is huge :)

However Apple isn’t charging any fees for hosting these applications on their lame servers. I say lame because if you recall the iTunes servers were down when the new firmware came out for the iPhone/iPod Touch also the same time when the iPhone 3G was launched. The AppStore is not a bad thing but Apple is being a dick about it. Yeah, there I called Apple a dick :P

So how is this related to the Government? Well the government taxes people and do nothing great for them, I am obviously here talking as an Indian. You see how I can get our government into all most anything? That’s what I actually wanted to prove :P

Anyway, the iPhone is a money making cow, as my friend Sanjit Nair rightly said. And the AppStore is just the beginning. It’s a huge platform and now it’s actually being treated as a gaming platform like the PlayStation Portable or a PDA. Most of the 3rd party applications are inclined towards the entertainment aspect of  life, some of them are great utilities which help you to navigate through life more easily. I have personally tried most of the free apps, some of them are by far the most lamest thing ever created and some of them actually blow you away.

My favorite application list includes; Cube Runner, Spell Number, Scribble, CheckPlease, PhoneSaber, Blip Solitaire, Bubbles and eReader. [The links provided here when opened will open up your iTunes, if you don't have iTunes installed you can always get it here]

As far as the paid applications go, I decided to stay away from them the main reason being I don’t have a credit card. Sad? Yes very sad indeed. Anyway I am really waiting for Super Monkey Ball to be available for free through hacks or something.

So to just sum it up : AppStore is great but Apple charges every developer who puts his application on the AppStore for a price which is why many developers are thinking of putting their apps for free and probably adding some fancy very WEB 2.0 ‘Donate here’ button. Or maybe they could get sponsors/ad-sense or whatever.

Oh and I have decided to stand in line for the iPhone when it’s launched in India, a night before outside the Vodafone store but the problem is I don’t wanna get one, so I am asking people around who want to get an iPhone and I could stand with them XD

Command Line Ctrl+Alt+Del

A cheery hello to all geekshoppers. This is your friendly neighborhood geek ^^

*sputter* *hang* aaarggghh.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and most of the times the world is back to normal again. But see the catch is, the Task Manager (The friendly application you pull up by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del) is also, well, an application with a handsome GUI and everything. And loading it up when your system is already dying is a touch difficult at times.

Enter the cmd. For those of you who don’t know what that is, cmd is the command line. It is a kind of an emulation of DOS (the dark predecessor to Windows) from within Windows. Anyway, you can call up cmd by going to Start>Run and typing cmd in the “open” line and pressing enter. Alternatively, you could just press the Windows key+R on your keyboard and the run window will appear.

Going for the kill via the command line/cmd makes things more efficient and faster.

You will need to use 2 commands, tasklist and then tskill OR tasklist and then taskkill. Details of their use follow:

Tasklist: Summon up tasklist by, err , typing “tasklist” on cmd. It will show you a list of all the running processes on your computer. What you need to care about is the memory usage and the PID (process ID) of that program. Any program running on your system is identified by its Process ID and so obviously, we use it to kill a program if we need to.

There are some parameters that can be passed to tasklist to modify its output as per our requirement.

tasklist /v : More information about things like Status, User name, Window Title etc.

Filtering processes: You can filter processes based on multiple parameters. However, if you are in a “about to be/nearly hanged” kind of a situation, you can simply use the following commands to to find processes that are not responding.

tasklist /fi "status eq not responding"

Use the folliwing to list the processes eating up more than “X” MB.

tasklist /fi "memusage gt X000"

Becoming a tasklist pro: Use tasklist /? to gain more insights about the whole tasklist phenomenon.

(NOTE: Tasklist comes bundled with Windows XP Professional, but it does not come with the Home edition. But no worries, those with the Home version of XP can download it here (Rapidshare) or here (non Rapidshare) and can put it in the system path. See how to put things in your system path at the end of this post.)

Tskill : This command is used to end a process, using its name or its PID (Process ID).

Kill with name: Use tskill processname to kill a process with name “processname”.

Kill with PID: Similarly use tskill processid to kill a process with PID processid. (Obvilously, Tasklist can be used to find the PID of a process.)

Professional Killers: To get more info on advanced syntax of the command use tskill /?

(NOTE: You get Tskill with both Windows XP Professional and Home :) .)

Taskkill : Taskkill is essentially tskill, but with more bang for your buck. Apart from specifying the PID or the name of the process to kill, we can use filters to kill the matching processes (as in tasklist).

Kill with name: Use taskill /IM imagename to kill a process with the given Image name. For example:taskkill /im notepad.exe /f (forces notepad to be killed.)

Kill with PID : Use taskill /PID processid to kill a process with the given processid.

Filtering Taskkill: Processes to be killed can be filtered based on multiple parameters. But what what we are essentially interested in doing is use the command to forcefully shut down all the processes that are not responding/eating up too much of our memory.

Killing Not responding programs:

taskkill /f /fi "status eq not responding"

Close down all programs using more than X MB.

taskkill /f /fi "memusage gt X000"

Help?: To get more info on advanced syntax of the command use taskkill /?

(NOTE: Taskkill is only a part of Windows XP Professional. But then again, this is the Geekshop. Download it here (Rapidshare), or here (Non Rapidshare).)

PS: Adding stuff to your system path:

Go to Start and right click on My Computer.

Go to properties and System Properties window will open up. Go to the tab called “advanced” and click on “Environment Variables”.

Go to the System Variables section and select “path” in it. Click “Edit” after selecting path variable.

At the end of the long list of already present statements, add “;” and enter the complete path of the folder where you have kept taskkill/tasklist. (Something like c:\mysecretfolder\taskkill). Save it and taskkill/tasklist should be accessible from your command line.

Alternatively, you could simply paste the exe files in WINDOWS/system32 folder.

iPod Touch Firmware 2.0 available For Free

So, the firmware 2.0 is out for both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, the iPhone users get it as a free update while the iPod Touch users have to pay 10$ [Thats around 420 Rupees] for it. Unfair? Totally.

Now there are rumors going around on why Apple charges the iPod Touch users, is it because they don’t have a great amount of users out there? Maybe, or is because they don’t get any monthly income from the iPod Touch users? Yeah, that makes sense.

So anyway I was snooping around and I found this great guide to update your iPod Touch to firmware 2.0 without paying a dime!

Follow the steps below :-

  1. Get iTunes 7.7 if you don’t already have it.
  2. Connect your iPod Touch.
  3. Hold down Shift and click ‘Restore’ after all the sync is complete. [Click on your iPod's name to see details about your iPod, the update feature, the way you sync and the Restore feature]
  4. Select the iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw
  5. Wait for the process to be completed.

Remember to take a BACKUP of all your iPod contents, even if iTunes does take one, you still need to take a backup of all your songs and videos. Take a backup using a free software called iDump, available here or any other iPod back up software you trust, I personally believe iDump is the best damn’ thing out there.

I am asking you to take a backup because we are restoring the iPod instead of updating it. Your setting will remain the same though and other things like your calender appointments and notes will remain as they were and that’s because iTunes takes a backup of everything.

After the iPod restarts after being ‘restored’ iTunes will give you an option of keeping your settings or setting up a new iPod.

Now the firmware has been tested by me and it worked fine on my iPod Touch, 16GB on a Windows XP Machine.

For more information about how to get the firmware, (iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw in the guide) you can just Google it.

(Update: the link posted in the Harman Badwaja (WTF!) in the comments section works.)

Disclaimer : We however do not take responsibility about anything in the post, obviously this is a electronics gadget and things can go wrong. So please read and re-read the article and follow the steps exactly and make sure you take a backup.

PS: You can use various softwares to join the parts if you download the firmware in parts.

For files ending in .rar.part1 etc., use Winrar. For others,

I recommend Split & Concat for the Mac OS X

And HJ Split for Windows

The Confessions of A Spokesperson - III

Date : July 11th 2008

As I lay on my bed, starring at the walls, I imagined what it would be like to be with someone for a night, I am not talking about a one night stand, though, well that’s not really a bad idea. Heck, I needed someone with me. Tom suggested me to register on various social-networking-dating sites. I, however was against the idea of dating some 60 year old hag with a fake allies on the Internet. I actually remember my co-worker Pete dating a girl on the Internet for a year, they said they loved each other. My theory was that love = bullcrap, the girl only wanted to have a boy toy and the guy wanted to get laid. Anyway, the girl stripped for him and shit on the web-camera, she didn’t happen to be Tina the friendly-outspoken girl she claimed to be, she happened to be Sofia, a porn star. Unexpected? For most people, yes.

I hugged my pillow and tried to think of things which weren’t related to me but I failed, I started thinking about this girl I know for quite a while, she was in a relationship, I smiled and tried to convince myself that even if she wasn’t in one she wouldn’t date me. And anyway, I was famous for breaking relationships as I was for being innovative. I was labeled as the ‘Marriage breaker’ in an issue of a gossip magazine, I remember laughing my ass of when I read that article, sadly the board of directors of my company didn’t think it was funny and they tried to suspend me, saying that I was a bad impression on the company. They tried to suspend me from my own start-up. I was however ended up not being suspended but had been ordered to spend three weeks in Mumbai, India. Why India? I don’t know, they wanted me to take a holiday in a far off eastern country, I assume.

The people of Mumbai were in a hurry, always. They were rude and arrogant, but that was justified. The low salary, the high inflation and the joint-family system contributed to make a man what he is in Mumbai. The long working hours, the famous local trains, the politics and the infrastructure were as bad as they could get, people were treated like animals here. Even though the man/woman of the house suffered so much here, they could still smile when they went home and talked to their family. It was a great thing, a huge thing actually. Ben, the person who was in in charge on the floor I was staying on, told me all that. I smiled and give him a small, 20 dollar tip. He grinned broadly and left to get me a pack of Dunhill Lights. I wasn’t a chain smoker, but I had a bad habit of smoking whenever I was out of Cupertino.

I decided to take a trip around Mumbai, I wanted to know about the place I was in. I hired a Honda Civic to roam around the city. The driver greeted me as I stepped outside the lobby of the hotel. He was an old man who had the habit of chewing beatle leaf. He took me to the famous places to visit in Mumbai, including the gateway of India and the Parliament House, which he told me was like the white house of India.

The sun had already disappeared from the sky and all that was left was a orange line on the blue canvas when I reached my room People say that this is God’s best painting. I say, if that’s a painting then God should have an exhibition at some art-gallery. You know people believe in God because they need something to believe in. We are weak, even the people who go around saying ‘Fuck Jesus..Satan is God’ believe in Satan. Those who say they are atheist are mostly lying to sound ‘cool’ I have been through all the stages of life, including the ‘God is great’ stage, the ‘Satan Rules’ stage and the ‘Fuck you all, I’m an atheist’ stage, but I finally decided to give in, I’m now a ’spiritual’ man. I guess some part of me always wanted to believe in something, but I was too delusional to listen to anything or anybody. Being an atheist was fun for a while, you know the whole ‘I don’t believe in anything’ was a good experience, but it got boring. I mean, okay so I know I don’t believe in anything but I need hope, some kind of hope which will tell me I’m gonna be fine. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane’

The suffering in my life was a revenge, from ‘God’ on how I treated Lilly, yeah. The painter never really liked me I guess. I had spoken to Lilly early last week and she went on to talk about how she still loved me, I wasn’t really all that surprised, I had to literally hang up on her to make her stop asking me if I hated her, the fact was I detested her.

I woke up to the noise of a crow in the balcony. Three weeks were gonna be over today, I said to myself, I am gonna get out of this cow-praying country. But something known as luck was against me, I personally never believed in luck, I always thought that luck was something which gave hope to people who have nothing to hope for. I was a looser, but I wasn’t desperate. But yes, luck was against me, my flight had been canceled due to a hurricane in Monterey. I was stuck at the airport for atleast 48 more hours.

Those 48 hours were probably the worst hours for most of the people who were traveling, for me it was the time when I got to know an amazing person called Molly, she lived in Cupertino too. It was looking at a mirror image of myself. At that moment I realized why I couldn’t be happy with Lilly it was because I didn’t think she was perfect, and the only person who I always thought was perfect is, well me and Molly was me, with huge breasts.

What now? Well, she has moved into my apartment, and we are in healthy relationship. I guess life always ends on a good note, though this is not the end but heck, atleast it’s a good note.

Note : This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents are the product of the author’s imagination and are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, business establishments, events is entirely coincidental. My inspiration is the life of Steve and Jobs, my own life and the people around me. This was the last in the COAS squeal, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

iPod Touch [16GB] : A Honest Review by a Honest AppleFanboy

[All the links have been verified and trust us there is nothing in them which could harm your computer]

Okay, now before most of guys are wondering why I got the iPod Touch, when the iPhone is going launch officially in September in India on Vodafone and Airtel. Well, the main reason being that I am not a big fan of a post-PC device which is multi-purpose. Heck, I have nothing but ring tones in my Sony Walkman mobile. Weird? I guess so, but I like more focused devices XD

So I bought an iPod Touch on July 6th 2008, as I opened the plastic on the box with John Legend’s photo on it, I hoped that I would just by chance get the limited edition Thriller 25 iPod Touch.  And even though I didn’t get one of those, I was still happy to look at a beautiful 3.5 inch device waiting to be plugged in to the computer. Desperately waiting, well. It was disappointing to see that I couldn’t use the iPod before I connected it to my PC and fired up iTunes. The anti-scratch glass screen looked solid but the back was already smudgy as I took the plastic off.  However that didn’t affect me much, because I had already experienced the lame-backside of an iPod before.

I plugged it in, and no driver was required and as I already had iTunes installed it hardly took me time to register the iPod and name it, than select how I wanted to manage the songs on it. So far so good.  I tried to sync 225 songs with album-art and lyrics through the USB 2.0 cable which came in the box [And by the by, I liked the previous cable better cause it had those 2 side button kinda things where you could eject the iPod quite easily. And there is no Apple logo in the new cable, WTF?!] Anyway it took me more then 25 minutes to just sync 225 songs, which made me angry. I left home with my new iPod to check how the Wi-fi works on it, I reached Croma [It's like the Circuit City of India] and they have free Wi-Fi. I picked up a scratch guard there and went online, and the experience was unexpectedly good, I even updated my Facebook status from my iPod Touch and than just added the Facebook Web App on my Home Screen.

Next day, as I tried to find my iPod in ‘My Computer’ I realized that the Touch couldn’t be used as a disc drive, one of the major bummers for me. Because I have always had the habit of using myiPod as a pen drive.  Maybe that was the reason why the iPod Touch never shows ‘Do Not Disconnect’ And even when it’s syncing songs or something else, it just shows ‘Slide here to cancel sync’. Which means you can play songs while the iPod is connected to your computer, which is a great thing XD

I have nothing to say about the built-in Apps like Mail, Maps, Stock and YouTube, because everyone knows they pwn =P

Now, the core functions of an iPod include:-

1. Playing Music : It does it wonderfully, however the coverflow is still kinda buggy and might take a long time to respond. While the accelerometer is very sensitive to whatever is going on, sometimes it ignores the movement, that is again annoying, but it’s still the first generation device.

2. Playing Videos : The 3.5 inch screen is great to look at, plus the stand included in the box is a good add-on even if it’s just plain plastic, however the accelerometer isn’t useful for video. You can view video one way only. Bummer for those fidgety people like me XD

3. Displaying Photographs : The pinching is fun to do, and is easy too. Even my granddad got used to it, now you can see him looking at a really old picture of me and my dad everyday.  The photographs can be rotated 360 degrees which is a cool thing.

The iPod does whatever it says it does and more, the battery life is great for me, I can watch 2 movies and a Scrubs episode and still the battery doesn’t die. A great thing for a night-owl like me or a person who travels alot.

The bad thing about it is, that it’s still kinda buggy, the keyboard layout gets annoying and frustrating, there are no games available yet on it, which makes the iPod boring. But then again, the AppStore is being launched this Saturday in India, and even though you have to pay roughly 430 Rupees for the update [10$] I think this update will solve many of the problems and get some great new features to both the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

The new earphones suck but less then the previous ones. They don’t really fit in my ear, well.

The box contains a pair of earphones, a stand, a USB cable and a dock adapter, a polishing cloth and a manual/warranty.

The iPod Touch weighs around 120gms, which is very light and it uses a flash drive which helps to make a 16GB lighter than an old 6GB iPod Mini.

More technical information about it HERE

A great MP3 player, a bit expensive but worth the 400$[In America] 23600 [In India] for people who love a focused Media Player.

Rating :

Design : 9/10

Features : 8/10

Ease of Use : 10/10

Price : 7/10

Overall : 8.3/10

The prices mentioned above are the prices with warranty and with bill, the American Dollar is taken to be 43 rupees in this case, the iPod Touch 16GB which is reviewed is with firmware 1.1.4 [With Software Updates] Apple has not sponsored this review in any way.

Please Note : I broke the news of the Indian iTunes AppStore being already live on Twitter =)

The Amarnath Land-Row: Explained

On July 6th, about 50 Kashmiri Pandits, protesting the revocation of the land allotment to the Amarnath shrine board, were detained on Sunday after they barged into Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz’s home in New Delhi. Kashmiri Pandits gathered at Jantar Mantar to voice their anger against the Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to revoke the land transfer order.

Now what the problem seems to be is that the Central government had allotted a certain amount of land for the ‘yatris’ of Amarnath, a holy place for Hindu’s. However the state government revoked the land transfer order. The Congress spokesperson said that they had temporarily allotted land and not ‘transferred’ it.

Anyway, there was a bandh held by the B.J.P [Bhartiye Janta Party] in all the states of India. The Bandh even affected the capital and the financial capital of the country. One person was also killed during violent protests in Indore on the day of the ‘India bandh’

This soon became a matter of religion and more than 60 people have died so far. The Governor of J&K [Azad] resigned soon after that because he ‘couldn’t handle the situation’ Making the already weakened government to be sad about something else too.

Even though the yatris and the government of J&K said that the ‘yatra’ was going on ’smoothly’ the ‘Hindu’ parties refused to believe it and went on with a bandh. Which caused, the life in Jammu and Kashmir came to a standstill for quite a while.

Now the questions most of the people ask are why was the land ‘taken back’ from the yatris? Now I can’t answer that nor can Google [atm]

The Amarnath yatra is taken by thousands of yatris every year and there have been no/poor facilities for them since the start. So why the sudden need for facilities? Okay, fine lame question, but the yatri has been going on since a long time and the Kashmiri Muslims have always supported the yatra. Now why this? The Kashmiri Muslims, on their blog make it a point to focus on the fact that they think the land should be given to the Shrine board, hell every educated Muslim is probably thinking the same thing now. And I agree with them but sadly the people don’t run the government even in a democracy.

The yatra has now, however been resumed and as India limps back once again from communal violence, we at The Drunk Santa, feel the need to tell you that riots and violence and politics won’t solve anything in our country.

A extremist Hindu wants to murder every Muslim man out there -An extremist Muslim wants to do something similar. We’re not America nor are we the United Kingdom, we are the worlds largest democracy in the world, and it’s time for us to grow up, we are however also quite famous for communal politics. And no, we are not telling you to be Gandhi. We are trying to tell you that if this keeps happening, it’s not gonna just affect the Indian political party leaders or the family of the people who die on the streets, but it’ll affect us all, it’ll affect our society.

So what do we do? We blog about it and write it in our diary, hoping that the government would listen to the people for once. While the government focuses more on how-they-will-survive-the-nuclear test, we the people suffer and witness bad communal politics.
